Botella, botella. No puntúo.

Decantado 90 minutos. Picota con ribete violáceo. Capa alta.

In the glass, the Aalto 2000 (100% Tinto Fino a/k/a Tempranillo), through a combination of its glycerin and its concentrated garnet, violet rimmed color, evokes a visual sensation of weight. Initially rather closed, the aromas steadily blossom to an expressive but elegant intensity. The nose include notes of cocao, fresh persistent fruit (mature plums and sweet raspberry - nothing stewed) toffee, saddle leather, espresso, mocha, and balsamic. The wood aromas are rich and softly integrated -- a moderated deep cedar rather than sharp oak profile. There is a slight mossy and mineral bottom to the aromatics as well. In the mouth the wine is rich, fleshy and round, profiling ample fruit (particularly a meaty cherry) with a subtly enticing sweetness. Also present is mocha, cocoa, blackcurrant liqueur, licorice and herbs. The acidity and wood is very well integrated and the tannins are silky and close to being fully domesticated.

A cask sample. Black cherry, medium-high opacity. The nose has notes of ripe fruit, forest and alcohol which then disappears to reveal hints of chocolate, spice and aromatic wood, vanilla and the toast of the cask. The mouth is fruity and too impetuous (please note: it is not yet on the market), with a few edges and an aftertaste of liquorice. Persistent. Should improve in the bottle. Sample score: 92-93

During the first hour open and decanted, the aromas are very closed, promises lots but very shyly, with notes of noble wood and lots of spice. The nose increases gradually and after it has been open for 3 hours it is very expressive, with a constant control very typical of the Mariano style. The foreground shows the quality of the ripe fruit, with notes of balsam and noble wood as background music. After good airing, the mouth is medium-bodied, with good acidity, giving the impression of a very tasty wine, lightly astringent and yet to integrate in the bottle. It lacks length and greater persistence to become an outstanding wine. A well-made wine but lacking a touch more excitement, at least at the moment.
After 24 hours, the wine is more withdrawn and does not have the expressiveness it had the day before after it had been open 3 hours.

Very opaque black cherry with a purple edge. The appearance gives a sensation of depth, similar to looking at a very deep lake. Still in the glass, the nose has aromas of good wood, spice (vanilla, cinnamon and a touch of clove) as well as roast (coffee). As it airs in the glass, they mix with the aromas of fresh black fruit (plums) and liqueur. The mouth is well-structured, which promises a long life, with good acidity and a certain astringency that tends to disappear in time. The aftertaste is fresh, with pleasant notes of balsam and hints of fruit. Quite persistent. Should evolve well in the bottle.

Opaque black cherry with a purple edge. Intense nose with ripe fruit, notes of forest, cocoa, spice, aromatic wood and smooth toast. The mouth is still too impetuous although the tannins (sweet) have calmed down a little. Both elegant and powerful. Long. Outstanding fruitiness. It requires good airing for consumption and I would serve it at a temperature of 16-17º.

Very opaque, dark black cherry with a violet edge that stains the glass. Dense tears that fall slowly.
The nose opens with a balance between the ripe black fruit and the varnish, together with a hint of forest floor. When worked in the glass, it shows notes of smoke and spice, with vanilla and clove. The attack in the mouth is very dry. Obviously needs a lot of bottle… though it shows good acidity… marked tannins, not yet polished, and even an edge or two in the mouth. Pleasant and fleshy, well-structured and very long. With airing and something to eat, it rounds off in the mouth and is less aggressive. Needs to be watched. Opened and decanted one hour before tasting and served at a temperature of 17º.

Amigos.
