Utiel-Requena wine week 23-29 November 2009.
The regulatory body ( CRDO ) for Utiel-Requena wine district of Valencia is promoting the wines of the region again this coming week. A series of events starting with a trade presentation ends with a wine disco. Perhaps most interesting is the event in Colon Market between 27th-29th where the CRDO will take a corporate stall for a public tasting of some of the best wines from the area.
For a `symbolic´price participants will receive a glass and tasting tickets `so that the whole world can have easy and direct access ´to the wines. Any money made will go to a Valencian charity to better society. A list of the bodegas participating is available on www.rutavino.com . Colon Market is between the Gran Via de Marques de Turia and Colon bounded by Sorni and Conde de Salvatierra, a stones throw from Colon metro or a short walk from Xativa and the Estacion del Norte.
The fair comes at a difficult time for the CRDO with many small growers abandoning their vineyards. The low prices for grapes this year has come at a time of risisng prices on a number of fronts. Growers are also having to meet higher standards for their equipment to pass technical inspections and avoid fines from traffic police. New regulations also require a driving licence to tow trailors behind tractors with more than 3.500 kilos of grapes. A number of Town Halls have also raised local rates.
