22nd Wine, Cava and Spirits Fair and 20th Traditional Foods Fair of the Valencian Community. 18-22 April 2010.
PROAVA, Valencia´s promotional body for the food, agriculture and wine trade will today announce details of the best wine and food fair held annually in the CV. This years event will be the biggest yet and the organisers are confident it will attract some 500,000 visitors to the space between the Flower and Calatrava bridges in the Turia river bed near Alameda Station in Valencia.
This year around 130 entities will take part including 60 bodegas from Castellon, Alicante and Valencia provinces, their respective Regulatory bodies and 16 producers of artesan made cheeses, meat products and sweets etc. The fair formally opens on Weds 14 April between 7-10p.m. Thereafter it is open from 11-3p.m. and 4-10p.m. on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th and from 11a.m.-10p.m. on Saturday and Sunday 17th and 18th.
Entry is free but tasting tickets this year will be 10€ for 4 wine tasting tickets and 4 food tickets. This also includes a souvenir wine glass and `cazuelita´ for sampling food.
The fair is held in conjunction with the Els Bodeguers annual winetasting and competition which awards prizes to the best wines from the Valencian Community. This year Utiel-Requena has has taken a very high proportion of the awards often for wines from the bobal variety. In the category for young whites and barrel aged whites Utiel-Requena wines took 1st and 2nd and 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the rosado category Utiel-Requena took all three awards and in the young reds category 1st and 3rd.
In the category for barrica , crianza and reserva reds Utiel-Requena took 4 of the nine awards available. These wines will be available to taste at the fair and from wine shops affiliated to Els Bodeguers. Just look out for the certificates proudly on display at the various stalls in the fair.
