Valencian Government to Promote Wine Tourism in the Moixent Area.
El Correo de Vino ( www.elcorreodevino.com ) today reports on a Valencian Government (Generalitat) initiative to further promote wine tourism in the Community. Valencia already has a successful wine tourism project running in the D.O Utiel-Requena wine growing district which combines winemaking and tastings with other agricultural initiatives such as the regions sausage production , walking and kayaking holidays and hotels and rural lodgings. www.rutavino.com
The new project will create a similar entity based around Moixent to include the vineyard areas of Moixent, Fontanars des Alforins and Font de Figuera which together produce some of the best wines from the D.O. Valencia. It is also a centre of gastronomy with several local fairs held annually as well as a rural holiday centre. The area is inland and to the Southwest of Valencia bordering on Alicante and Albacete provinces.
The initiative is being promoted by the Rural Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture as part of their development programme and will involve an investment of some €1.9 millions in promoting the interior´s wine industry , improving the environment and creating new hikeing paths. The Generalitat sees wine tourism as an important part of their future strategic plans. Much of the wine tourism is currently led by the Spanish visiting from other regions of their country, Valencia generally being seen as a healthy place to go for a holiday. However international visitors are increasingly seen at all the major events.
It will be interesting to watch this welcome development grow.
