Agustí Torelló Mata Cavas
Agustí Torelló Mata Cavas
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiOne of my worthwhile discoveries at Alimentaria was the cavas of Agustí Torelló Mata. I admit that, generally speaking, cavas are one area of Spanish wine that never seemed too promising to me, but I was very impressed with this producer. Unfortuantely for me, only a tiny bit of this cava is imported to the US.
Does anybody else share my view of Agustí Torelló Mata? What other cavas do you think compete at the same level?
Re: Agustí Torelló Mata Cavas
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiIMHO Torello’s Krypta is probably the best Spanish cava, in a similar level I also like very much Gramona’s products, especially Celler Batlle, however there’s a few more interesting cava producers to know.
If you want some more information here you’ll find the results of latest Verema’s tasting of brut nature cava (https://www.verema.com/comunidad/cronicas/cronica.asp?cronica=116)
and of plain brut cava

Yep.... sorry, in Spanish...
Cheers

Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiI agree with you. Agustí Torelló is one of the best cava-cellar in Spain.

Ver mensaje de Paco HigónThanks for thie information.
My understanding is that only a little Agustí Torelló Mata is imported to the US, and the little bit that comes here does not get distributed beyond New York. I’m not sure any Krypta gets here at all.
At least.... did you tried here???? (V)

Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiHi Walt! ... yeap, I like Agusti Torello a lot, and here it can be found fairly easy. The cavas usually availabe in the USA (according to my experience) are very non-impressive (or plain uninteresting). There are some few nice ones (I remember the tons of magnums I bought from a cava, whose name I can not recal: is the one that has a bottle with a nice ornament in lead, you might have seen it ... this is pretty decent) but usually, it is better to forget about them :).
Also, and in a weird sense, I sort of disagree with Paco: true that Krypta is an incredibly great cava, it really is, but for the price you have to pay, you can find a bunch of better champagnes. However, the ";low and middle class"; of the cellar have a fantastic QPR.
Good night! (you seem to be the only English Speaking person that stubornly keeps contributing to this ... I think that you deserve a prize ... maybe a Kripta? :-)))

Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiI think most of us share your view about Agustí Torelló Mata cava.
There are some few small cellars at the same level; may be Gramona, Recaredo, Ferret, ...
You should try with Kripta ...
Re: Agustí Torelló Mata Cavas
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiHello Walt,
Recently I read that in the foreign markets (others than Spain), the cava is on the shelves competing basically on the price, and that the products are not so good (or directly for the trash)... perhaps some good cavas reach the market but in a few quantity. This looks not good for the cava marketing... Do you share this view?
On the other hand, the Agustí Torelló is one of the bests (perhaps the best?). I love very much the ’Reserva Barrica’ one and of course the ’Krypta’. https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=2244
On the other hand, the Segura Viuda’s Torre Galimany, is a very good choice too: https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=371
Also greats are ’Raventós i Blanc’ -Gran Reserva- and ’Bertha’ -Gran Reserva too-: https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=3973 and https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=4179 , the pinot noir is interesting (as cava!) https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=5446 .
The Gramona’s are also very good, and the lately the ’Mont-Ferrant’’s Berta-Bouzy has catched me: https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=4142
Wow, thanks for reading!
Salut!
