Wines of Rafael Cambra
Re: Wines from DO Valencia
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiWalt, you have to try the wines from Celler del Roure made by Pablo Calatayud: Maduresa and Les Alcusses (its second wine). Their first vintage was 2000.
TNs in Spanish: https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/resultados.asp?buscar=celler+del+roure&submit=Buscar+vino
And in English:

The wines from Rafa Cambra are interesting but they need time in bottle and more vintages to experiment and get ";their own path";.
Maduresa and Les Alcusses
Ver mensaje de Juan SuchAmazingly, I have just located these wines in the US, and now I recall hearing once before that Maduresa is perhaps the best wine in Valencia. I will try these wines soon. Thank you for the tip!
Re: Maduresa and Les Alcusses
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiWalt, I suppose you will get the 2002s, at least they are what is commercialised right now in Spain.
Interestingly, Pablo Calatayud is re-grafting (";reinjertar"; in Spanish, is that verb correct?) the Tempranillo vines to Mandó (a local grape) and Monastrell. Too hot microclimate for Tempranillo.
For the 2003 vintage he has increased the production of Syrah vines and has something of Petit Verdot.
Re: Maduresa and Les Alcusses
Ver mensaje de Juan SuchRe-grafting. Yes.
I can get the 2001 Maduresa right here in Washington.
Viña Izadi
Ver mensaje de reindiebenI love Viña Izadi too. Nice value for money down here.
Sl2,
Re: Maduresa and Les Alcusses
Ver mensaje de Juan SuchWell, IMHO right now 2001 is a better option.... 2002 vintage needs more time in bottle and a strong aeration .... as initially some strong reduction notes can be found...
Cheers!
Re: Maduresa and Les Alcusses
Ver mensaje de Juan SuchExactly my thoughts. The 2001 should be far more enjoyable than the rather tough 2002 that failed to impress me in spite of my excellent disposition.
Re: Maduresa and Les Alcusses
Ver mensaje de Juan SuchYes Juan Such I agree with you the wines of Rafael Cambra have a quite international style. They maybe lack the local/unique style.
Celler del Roure’s(Pablo Calatayud): Maduresa and Les Alcusses I defintely have to try. Has any one got extra info on this estate? And has anyone got the email of Pablo Catalayud?
Dear Walt Zalenski, Comparing to Casa Castillo I prefer the Valencia UNO, as I tasted the wines together and have chosen to work with Rafael Cambra from that point on. (
Productions are way to small the export 1700 UNO and 4000 DOS. It’s sold in Spain, Germany, Belgium and Holland. And I already think that’s to much spread out for such as small quantity.)
