2011 Vinícola Real 200 Monges Selección Especial (98 puntos)
Gran Reserva (13%)
This is the first time that this Selección Especial has been sold as a Gran Reserva, and what a way to start it is. Marrying Viura with 20% Malvasía and 5% each of Garnacha Blanca and Calagraño, it's one of Spain's greatest whites. Remarkably fresh for a 13-year-old wine, it has wonderful precision, grace and complexity, showing notes of kelp, lime and grapefruit, deftly applied new French and American oak and a lingering finish. 2024-30
2011 Vinícola Real 200 Monges (96 puntos)
Gran Reserva (13%)
Anyone who doubts that Rioja can make world-class whites should treat themselves to a bottle of this mature Viura from two vineyards planted in 1940 and 1969. Remarkably fresh and youthful, it combines toast, jasmine and nutmeg aromas with a salty, citrus fruit, brine and oyster shell palate. 2024-32
2021 Vinícola Real 200 Monges Alto de Valdemorche Blanco (94 puntos)
Viñedo Singular (13%)
Valdemorche comes from a vineyard planted at 635 metres in Badarán just over a century ago and is produced as a varietal Viura. New French oak adds a sheen of sophistication to a wine that is structured and focused, with lime, wet stone, lemongrass and baking spice flavours and mouth-watering acidity. Exemplary white winemaking. 2024-29
2011 Vinícola Real 200 Monges Maceración Con Pieles (94 puntos)
Genérico (15%)
High in alcohol because it is deliberately made with over-ripe grapes, this intense white field blend sees ageing in a combination of barrels, concrete eggs and stainless steel. Highly unusual and distinctive, it has notes of quince, black tea and quinine, a hint of glycerol sweetness and a tangy, stony finish. Intriguing stuff. 2024-28
2012 Vinícola Real 200 Monges (93 puntos)
Reserva (13%)
Albelda and Badarán are the twin Rioja Oriental sources of this cuvée of Viura and 10% Malvasía Blanca from white wine specialist Miguel Ángel Rodríguez. Sappy, scented and skilfully wooded in French and 20% American oak, it has a nice combination of pear, peach and grapefruit flavours and a poised, well-balanced finish. 2024-28
