Re: Grandes Vinos Portugueses
The 2013 Branco Garrafeira Quinta dos Bageiras is a very old-vines bottling (100 years) and a 50/50 blend of Bical and Maria Gomes. It was aged in large wooden vats (2,500 liters) and is unfiltered. Seductive and caressing, this is beautifully textured, with some power and bite on the finish to enliven it. On the subtle side, it never loses its persistence, no matter how harmonious it is. Mario said to me that it can easily do 20 years in the cellar, even if it seems to drink well now. Let's be a little conservative, noting that not everyone is going to be pulling the wine direct from the winery. In the meanwhile, this may turn into something more interesting in a few years, but it also tastes great now. It should be a perfect food wine, too.
