First press red- clairette ??
First press red- clairette ??
Someone I know in Spain loves 'clairette' (spelling ?)
I understand this to be different from a rosado, is it ?
Do (m)any bodegas produce it ?
Re: First press red- clairette ??
Ver mensaje de RayQI think you mean 'clarete'. Hmmm... maybe someother forumites can give you better info, but af as I know it was an old kind of vinification. I think it's still allowed in some DOs, but I wouldn't bet my hand... Maybe in DO Cigales?
Cheers,
Jose
Re: First press red- clairette ??
Ver mensaje de joseThanks Jose,
but it's not rosado is it ?
Re: First press red- clairette ??
Ver mensaje de RayQRight, a clarete is not a rosado. The differences are in the kind of vinification. According to this link
https://www.verema.com/foros/foro-vino/temas/39740-rosado-y-clarete#respuesta_39825
(despite I think you've a very good spanish I translate it just in case any other english reader doesn't understand the content of this link)
The rosado (rosé) macerates with skins and all the fuss and is vinified as a white wine (fermentation without them). The claret is vinified as a red wine, however adding white grapes or making a partial fermentation with the skins.
Hope this helps,
Jose
Re: First press red- clairette ??
Ver mensaje de joseThanks Jose
I assumed there was a link with the English use of Claret.
As far as I know...
Ver mensaje de RayQThe word 'Claret' for english native speakers is related to red wines that comes, historically, from Bordeaux, isn't it?
Regards,
Jose
Re: As far as I know...
Ver mensaje de joseYes. I thought the link you provided alluded to this ?
Obviously my Spanish has still some way to go ! :-(
Oooops, you're right :)
Ver mensaje de RayQIt's explained by JMMRA in his entry.
Cheers,
Jose
