Help us to preserve Jerez/Sanlúcar heritage
Ver mensaje de Álvaro GirónAs it’s been mentioned below we are trying to save a palace a 17th century palace . It was built by an Irish family who created one of the most important commercial companies in Spain connecting Catalonia, Andalucía and the New World. The palace acted both as the headquarters of the company and as the residence of the Arizón family. It holds a unique architectonical body including rooms for residential premises as well as warehouses, cellars, etc., being one of the finest examples of this sort of buildings in Andalucía. After being bought by a company based in Madrid 18 years ago, it has been deliberately abandoned throughout this time. Paradoxically, the City Council and the regional authorities (Junta de Andalucía) have “awarded” this group of speculators by giving their formal approval to a project of “restoration” whose main purpose is converting the 5000 squared meters of the Arizón palace into 80 new flats. That would mean the complete destruction of the original architectonical structure of the palace. Shortly we will see bulldozers making a mockery of what was one of the most beautiful 17th century monumental buildings of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Spain.
Casa Arizón is also of the highest importance to understand the role of american trade in the rise of Sherry wine industry. Actually, the ";bodegas"; were part of the old body of the palace, and they are now in a sorry state. They were one of the oldest and finest examples of this sort of buildings in the Sherry area.
This is the reason why I beg your help to save Casa Arizón by signing this petition. This is our link in english: http://www.gerionsanlucar.com/SalvemosArizon/Manifiesto_Arizon_Ciberaccion_ingles.htm
