The 2000 vintage for Port has produced some stunning examples and only time will tell how classic they will become in the future. Certainly the 2000’s I have tried such as Fonseca, Noval and Niepoort from 2000 have impressed me. I had bought some of the 2000 Vesuvio based on Roy Hersh’s recommendation and here was my chance to try it.

Opaque black plum. Overripe blackberry and blueberry fruits, still quite grapy in a primary way. Black cherry kirsch, massive palate of mouth drying yet ripe tannins, dark fruits, huge power on the palate but the finish is a touch shorter than I expected when compared to 2000’s like Fonseca. Still, a hugely impressive Port and I am happy with my purchase.
