I have enjoyed drinking 1985 Warre’s in the last couple of years. A few of us drank the 1985 Grahams two months ago (March 2004) at an offline and it was good, if still young. I had heard that Fonseca was near the top of the 1985 tree and so I wanted to sample its supposed delights.

Opaque purple optic. There were floral elements amongst the very ripe black plums on the nose. Ripe plumy fruit, the tannins are still young but not drying on the long and very well balanced finish. Velvet and with such a promising life ahead, it may be time to pick up some of this for future drinking. However, I estimate that it really needs ten year to hit its stride.
