I had drunk most of the top Ports from 1970, including Taylor, Fonseca, Graham and Niepoort as well as ones like Noval. The Noval Nacional is supposed to be the top wine of the vintage, but I have yet to try it. Here was my opportunity to sample the Dow.

Dark red plum and it was clearly the darkest of the four Ports so far. The rim is a rose red. A mix of aniseed, dry fig and even ground herb. A silky start, the palate opens up its throttle to slide effortlessly across my taste buds. A long finish and perfect to drink now, although it will have decades of life ahead.
