Affordable Chave
Affordable Chave
Chave(negociant) St. Joseph Offerus 2003
Tried a bottle of the 2003 last over a couple of nights.
On opening I was a bit underwhelmed to be honest. It was obviously Rhone Syrah having that sulphur note I always seem to get. Nice but a little simple I thought.
On the second day however it seems to have changed quite a bit.
That slightly 'thin' sulphuric (struck match) nose has become infused with mineral notes adding considerable complexity. There are also woody, smokey, earthy notes.Much smoother on the palate also with a nice velvety texture. This is really very good.
It's no bargain QPR (sorry Jose!) but for about €20 it does represent good value.
Re: Affordable Chave

Jose
Re: Affordable Chave
I also opened a 2002 or 04, can't remember, and it was really nice, specially as you say, on the palate. I'd buy it again, but I haven't seen it. It was a present from a friend, he bought it in Switzerland.
