This wine was the subject of some debate here. It says bottled 1984 on the label but Walt discovered from Alejandro Fernandez that the wine is in fact a 1978 Gran Reserva. I opened the bottle with some wine loving Spanish friends with hope and fear in my heart.
On opening the aroma was very promising. Not corked and some pleasant secondary aromas present with some fruit. The colour was light red at the centre fading to orange at the rim. In the glass there were aromas of leather/meat and a touch of VA like an aged Ch Musar. On the palate the wine was pleasant but not as interesting as on the nose. Some fruit survived but sadly it quickly faded. After an hour it was less appealing. I have no doubt that 5-10 years ago this would have been fascinating. Still it was a pleasure to have a taste of history.
