The 2001 La Cueva del Contador is a deep garnet-purple in color and exhibits a rich aroma of intense red berries, sandalwood, cigar box, leather, and smoky earth. In the mouth it is very rounded and pure with plenty of plush sweet fruit that is given buoyancy by good acidity and mineraliy. Although yet a baby, the nice balance between power and suppleness already is clear evidence of impressive winemaking skills, and one can easily project a fine development for this wine over time.
