The 2001 L’Alleu is made from garnacha, carinena, cabernet Sauvignon, and tempranillo. It has an intense, very bright aroma of red fruits and black plums, with interesting toasted notes, lead pencil, violet, coffee and eucalyptus. The manner of the oak’s contribution to the nose is fairly unique - highly perfumed but focused within a narrow range of a oak scents. The wine has a milky body, strong fruit, an enticing anise-sweetness, and great persistence. It is well structured, with a touch of tannic dryness and good acidity, and should improve for several years. Some wines from Montsant tend towards the overripe - not the case with this very fresh wine.
