The 1966 vintage appears to have been initially underrated in comparison to the 1963 vintage. I believe that now, most Port lovers see the 1966 vintage as longer lasting and ultimately of a finer quality. At the recent ‘Raffle offline’ in London in March 2004, I opened a magnum of 1966 Grahams, and even with over five hours of decanting time, it was still ever so youthful. Here was my chance is try another fine example from the vintage.

Clear and focused plum red with a light pink rim. The subtle nose did not reveal much, apart from a touch of aniseed and red currants. Seamless, ripe dates and a hint of plain chocolate that is well integrated and leads to a very long finish. This will hold for a couple of decades. This bottle proved slightly controversial as some said it was corked. I left mine in the glass for over 30 minutes and I did not detect any TCA.
