Off-topic: What season rolls?
Ver mensaje de joseHi all,
I’m writing down some of my queued recipes and I find a quite curious naming convention issue. For the kind of oriental rolls (wherever they come from) we name them as ’spring rolls’, nonetheless I’ve some english recipes to translate where some of them are named as ’spring rolls’ and some others as ’summer rolls’... I find no difference in their ingredients (no veggies relationship with the spring name). So, any clue about why to name them as spring/summer rolls?
Thanks and regards,
Jose

Ver mensaje de joseHi Jose. Spring rolls are so called for the fact that they are traditionally served at chinese new year, in spring. The recipe is much the same as found here in Spain, sometimes cabbage and /or bean sprouts and sometimes with meat. I believe they are a smaller version of the Chinese egg roll.
I have never come across a ’summer roll’in the uk or here.

Ver mensaje de joseI imagine summer rolls is the same thing, but adapted to use summer vegetables (courgette, maybe aubergine?)
That’s what I thought...
Ver mensaje de suikoEven saying ’autumn rolls’ if we use more ’cold’ veggies like artichokes or mushrooms ;) but in fact I didn’t find any difference between the used greens (from courgettes to carrots, lettuces, asparagus...).
Thanks & regards,
Jose
