QPR RED ALERT - Wide World of Wines in DC had this priced for $15.29. Obviously it is even a greater bargain in Spain Beryna 2003 from Bodegas Bernabé Navarro is a blend of 60% Monastrell, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, 5% Merlot, 5% Tempranillo that is aged for 12 months in French, American and Russian. It is a very dense shining violet purple in color with a soaring nose of black cherry and plum fruit, graphite, cigar box, and a hint of Asian spice and chocolate liqueur. Bright and intensely flavorful yet elegant and silky on the palate, the elements of the wine’s coupage appear to dance around each other creating a fascinating complexity. This is not a flabby hot-weather 2003; there is more than sufficient structure, acidity, and minerality. The previous vintage of Beryna was a decent wine for the price, but the 2003 seems to come from a different planet altogether. Few would be disappointed if they paid three times the price for this wine.
